Operators wanting to maintain their services in DC can begin their legalization process on Tuesday, December 17th, 2019. Those applicable for applications include Management Services, Operators, and Suppliers in the sports betting industry. However, it’s anticipated that the governing authority for betting in DC won’t approve any licenses until January 2020.

This recent announcement also doesn’t provide any insight as to when the first casino in DC could open their doors. However, estimates from industry-insiders reveal that multiple casinos should open three to six months after January. This means by the second financial quarter, Americans in the capital state can bet on their favourite sporting institutions. It should be noted that timelines for licensing will vary depending on each application. The office of Lottery and Gaming in DC won’t rush this process for the convenience of bettors.

Complicated Legislation

DC Legislators have created odd circumstances about sports betting. All citizens in the capital state will be required to avoid sports betting or online gambling when at a government-based facility. This will also apply to any building with a Class A License, which is considered security-designated properties. This is to avoid potential data leaks in these separate buildings, with previous hacks through sports betting occurring worldwide. National defence is always the main priority for America.

There have been a few operators claiming their interest in the DC Sports Betting market. Monumental Sports signed an agreement with William Hill, hoping that their combined services will be accepted by the DC Officer of Lottery and Gaming. They’ve already confirmed that consumers will have access to their betting products via mobile devices and household computers. Subsequently, fans of online sports betting have plenty to look forward to with the approval of state-wide gambling. Players can expect all national sporting agencies to be supported by online sportsbooks in DC. This will include Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, and the National Basketball League.
