2020 Heisman Trophy Predictions
The 2020 college football season has begun, and with the preseason, talk is already well underway about who are favourites for winning the 2020 Heisman Trophy. A few standouts, who are now household names include Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence and D’Eriq King, and if the oddsmakers are any indication, one of those two could be in top contention for the coveted title.
The uncertainty that surrounded the pandemic saw many sportsbooks pulling their odds for the Heisman Trophy. However, with the start-up, many have once again re-posted odds. Albeit, this is with the understanding that game cancellations could have an impact due to the continued spread in the U.S.
While Fields, Lawrence and King are clear frontrunners, there are several others to consider and keep a close eye on. This includes Georgia’s J. T. Daniels, Florida’s Kyle Trask, Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard and Alabama’s Najee Harris. The four contenders have the talent to jump into the lead, but with so much unpredictability this season, it is hard to look beyond what is staring us in the face.
That being said, we are focusing our prediction on Fields, Lawrence and King, and as you can see, they all are front runners who will challenge each other for a finalist position.
Justin Fields
This has seen Heisman odds fluctuating often. Currently, one leading the list is Ohio’s Justin Fields. After seeing action early in the season, Fields will face challenges that could impact how he is seen amongst the oddsmakers. This includes Penn State scheduled to square off against Illinois, Indiana, Maryland and Rutgers. Fields amassed an impressive record last year combining 878 yards, giving up only one turnover and racking up 11 touchdowns.
Trevor Lawrence
Trevor Lawrence is coming in second for top honours as a potential winner of the Heisman Trophy. Lawrence was instrumental in helping Clemson win their second back-to-back National Championship. In their five championship games, he played in four and that gives him the experience he needs to have an impact and solid performance this season. As long as Lawrence stays injury free, and performs well, it is expected to see his name on the list of finalists in December.
D’Eriq King
D’Eriq King has shot into contention this season after being transferred from Houston due to his not being given the attention he deserved. Currently third in overall odds to win the 2020 Heisman trophy, he led the Hurricanes to back-to-back wins, and that included a win over Louisville. Packed with energy and potential, King’s talent is coming finally being seen, and the odds are looking favourable that he will join Lawrence and Fields on the list of finalists.
